Help Families By Extending Unemployment Compensation

Currently, 5.4 million Americans have been out of a job for six months or more. Approximately 7,000 workers run out of unemployment insurance each day. The unemployment rate for the country is now close to 10 percent. Hopes of getting a new job are slim as an average of six workers are competing for each job opening. All of these numbers add up to thousands of families facing cold weather with no job and no income.

A bill in the Senate would help families across the country by extending unemployment insurance. The AAUW has an action alert that you can use to contact your senators about this important issue.

Are you unemployed, or is someone in your family? Is your compensation running out? Please tell us about it in the comments.
