Half In Ten Also Gives Option to View Poverty Data by Congressional District

On the heels of our post about KIDS COUNT data on child poverty, the Half in Ten Campaign has also issued an interactive breakdown of the number of people in poverty in each Congressional District in the country.  The data shows the number in poverty and in child poverty, and shows whether the change in poverty is statistically significant.  Additional information includes the number of women, African Americans, and Latinos living in poverty in each district.

This Week in Harrisburg - April 11 - April 15, 2011

Capitol legislators held discussions on school choice, tax credits, and more salary freezes at the capitol this week. The House Finance Committee heard Wednesday from a variety of county and municipal organizations on their priorities for the upcoming year. Discussion focused around mandate relief, tax and pension reform, and the potential for a local impact fee on gas extraction. By a vote of 15 to 11, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to report as amended, SB 1, legislation creating a school voucher program. The committee adopted an amendment offered by Sen. Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster) which he said clarifies certain provisions, expands opportunities available under the program, and contains the cost impacts. A series of amendments offered by committee Democrats were defeated. The bill will now go to the Senate floor for further consideration.
