- In 2009, seven Philadelphians with HIV died on the streets or in homeless shelters.
- Philadelphia maintains a 30-month-long waiting list for housing assistance for low-income people living with HIV.
- Providing housing for people with HIV saves lives and money by decreasing mortality, lowering the frequency of hospitalizations, and decreasing HIV transmission.
- Twenty years ago, Congressman McDermott helped craft a life-saving federal program that provides housing assistance to low-income people with HIV. He will talk about his decades of work on this issue and the current struggle to ensure access to housing.
