Human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery. Victims of trafficking are tricked, lured, coerced, or otherwise removed from their home or country, and then exploited for commercial sex or labor purposes.

Human trafficking is tied with the illegal arms trade as the second largest criminal industry in the world and it is the fastest growing.

Did you know?

This horrific crime drastically impacts women as 80% of human trafficking victims are women and girls. Studies indicate that the average age of a U.S. female to be forced to enter into sex trafficking is just 12 years old.

Did you know?

Human trafficking occurs all over this country, including Pennsylvania and in the City of Philadelphia. But the Philadelphia Anti-Trafficking Coalition (PATC), is working to help victims and put an end to this brutal crime.

Attend a Film Screening and Discussion

On Wednesday, January 11, 2012, the Philadelphia Anti-Trafficking Coalition (PATC) will host a special screening of the documentary Very Young Girls, which will be followed by a panel discussion. The film highlights the plight of teenage girls sold into street prostitution in New York City, and the hardships they face. The event will take place from 6:00 to 8:00pm at University of Pennsylvania, Stiteler Hall, 208 S. 37th Street, Philadelphia. Admission is free and light refreshments will be provided.


Advocate for Life-Saving Legislation

Help push for the passage of the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline Act (SB 338). This state legislation would help victims of human trafficking escape their situation by requiring certain establishments in PA to post the 24-hour hotline number.

This important bill, sponsored by Senator Leach, was unanimously voted out of the Senate Labor & Industry Committee this past fall. Now, we are pushing for a full Senate vote and our lawmakers need to hear from you!

Please take a moment to contact your State Senator and urge him or her to support the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline Act - SB 338.

Overlooked and Undercounted: Struggling to Make Ends Meet in Pennsylvania

Census data tells us that 13% of Pennsylvania households live in poverty. In reality, even more households don’t have the income they need to reach self-sufficiency. One in four Pennsylvania households – over 846,000 – lack enough income to cover just the necessities. Since 1997, PathWays PA has worked with Dr. Diana Pearce and the University of Washington to calculate  The Self-Sufficiency Standard for Pennsylvania . Mini-Budget Update-Supporting the American Community Survey

(via The Census Project ) Next Tuesday, June 19 is an important date to mark on your calendar. The Congressional Joint Economic Committee is holding a public hearing on the economic impact of eliminating the American Community Survey (ACS) at 2:30 p.m., in Room 210 of the Canon House Office Building. Witnesses that will be speaking in opposition to the move to eliminate the ACS are Vincent Barabba, former director of the Census Bureau in two GOP administrations and Ken Simonson, chief economist for the Association of General Contractors and also representing the National Association of Business Economists. It is very important that we pack the congressional hearing room! If you cannot come, please urge your colleages to come.
