Free Flu Vaccines for Restaurant Workers! It isn't too Late

Tuesday, January 22 from 12:00PM-4:00PM at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Center for Urban Health. 211 South 9th St, Suite 313 (across the street from the NeuroScience Hospital)

93% of restaurant workers in Philadelphia do not have access to health insurance or earned sick days. As a result 2/3 of restaurant workers have reported having to work while sick. The lack of sick days afforded to restaurant workers creates a breeding ground for a public health crisis during flu season.

Also, you can sign the petition asking Councilman Jim Kenney to Support Earned Sick Days for all Philadelphians!

Do You Want Governor Corbett to Take the Deal on Medicaid Expansion in PA?

The new health care law allows states to expand Medicaid to everyone making up to 133% of the Federal Poverty Level in 2014. ($15,302 for an individual and $31,155 for a family of 4).
More than half a million uninsured Pennsylvanians would get health care coverage. The expansion would bring over $17 billion dollars into Pennsylvania and allow us to create much-needed jobs in the long-term care workforce.
If you support this change, sign the letter and join the January 16 conference call from 12:30PM to 5:30PM to learn more about the numbers.

Dont' Dismantle The PA Aging Waiver Program
Years ago, when Pennsylvania determined that it made economic sense to shift from almost total reliance on nursing homes to more home and community based services (HCBS), it secured an Aging Waiver from the federal government and built its system for HCBS upon the 52 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs).

This change saved money while keeping more seniors where they wanted to be: in their own homes and communities.

Today, due to funding, cuts, re-allocations and regulatory changes, AAAs no longer provides aging waivers effectively. Without the AAAs able to provide these services, many seniors are left with no choice but moving into expensive nursing care facilities against their will.

Learn more from our friends at theCampaign for What Works. Then ask your legislator and DPW
(1-800-692-7462) to stop hurting seniors!
