11th Annual Women and Influence Conference!

The Women & Influence Conference is a free public forum that allows community members to come together, focus and voice opinions on issues of importance to women, girls and families.

This year's conference will feature a "girls' track" for young women aged 11- 18. The workshops will engage and train young women to become critical media consumers and creators.

The conference will be held Saturday, March 15, from 9:00am-3:30PM at Moore College of Art and Design located at: 20th Street and The Parkway in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania Raises Income Limits for SNAP (Food Stamps)

Effective immediately, the Department of Public Welfare has increased the Gross Income Limit for families eligible for food stamps from 130% of the Federal Poverty Level ($28,665 for a family of four) to 160% of the FPL ($35,280 for the same family). Additionally, all one or two person households under the Gross Income Limit (160% FPL for most families, but 200% FPL for senior and disabled households) are eligible for at least $16/month in food stamps, even if they are above the Net Income Limit. PathWays PA will Release Overlooked and Undercounted on May 12! (#pressrelease)

In Pennsylvania, a large and diverse group of families are experiencing economic distress and are routinely overlooked and undercounted. That’s the finding from PathWays PA’s latest publication, Overlooked and Undercounted: Struggling to Make Ends Meet in Pennsylvania, which uses The Self-Sufficiency Standard of Pennsylvania to determine how many households live below self-sufficiency. PathWays PA, a service and advocacy organization for women, children and families, is releasing this report to examine the impact of education, gender, and race on the overlooked and undercounted in Pennsylvania as they relate to the Self-Sufficiency Standard. Final Vote on FMAP Extension Today: Help Balance Pennsylvania’s Budget

Last night the U.S. House Committee on Rules set the stage for a vote today on H.R. 4213 -the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010. Despite some modifications to the bill, the extended enhanced Medicaid match rate (FMAP) remains in the bill. The extension includes $24.1 billion for 6 months, of which Pennsylvania will receive $848 million. H.R. 4213 also includes crucial extension of the provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) related to unemployment, COBRA, a temporary extension of the Emergency Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) fund, as well as other provisions. This enhanced FMAP is central to PA balancing its 2010-2011 budget without deep cuts to education, health and human services and the job losses that inevitably would follow.
